03/07/20 Minutes of Previous Meeting dated 25th May 2020

Summary of Discussion:

There were no comments. The minutes were accepted as a true record of the meeting.

JOD to put a public copy of the minutes on our Facebook page.

04/07/20 Matters Arising

Summary of Discussion:

Boundary Walls:

PW thanked IW for the work done on the walls. There is no need to apply for a walling grant from PDNPA.

Recreation Ground:

The committee are looking into retaining some of the recreation ground as a wildflower meadow.

There was always a hard standing at the side of the hall which was made bigger in about 1967 by tipping chatter onto the soil. This will still be there under the grass. The committee agreed that use of the recreation ground would be dependent on the future use of the hall.

Insurance:

Hartington Middle Quarter Parish Council will discuss insurance for Pomeroy War Memorial Hall at their next meeting on 13th July.

Letter to Buxton Drama League (BDL):

A discussion took place about whether to write to BDL to find out their intentions regarding the hall.

ACTION:

BD suggested a walk around the hall as a group so PW and JB can tell us what they remember of the hall.

JOD to type up letter to BDL and share with the committee before or at the Fit for Funding workshop.

05/07/20 Solicitor

Summary of Discussion:

Our solicitor is now dealing with Land Registry for us.

06/07/20 Rural Action Derbyshire (RAD)

Summary of Discussion:

The committee agreed to instruct Helena Stubbs to carry out the work with the Charity Commission on our behalf, but leave the Land Registry to the solicitor.

07/07/20 Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA)

Summary of Discussion:

Walling Grant:

There is now just one boundary wall to be rebuilt. The committee decided to leave this for now.

Footpaths:

Mike Rhodes visited Pomeroy to look at footpaths. The footpath along the roadside is the responsibility of Derbyshire Dales District Council. PDNPA are willing to make the path from the High Peak Trail to the Duke of York more accessible by replacing the stile with a gate and making a ramp instead of steps.

Highways and Access:

To be discussed further with DDDC and DCC.

08/07/20 Bank Account

Summary of Discussion:

LM to phone the bank.

09/07/20 Funding

Summary of Discussion:

Awaiting bank account to claim Derbyshire Action Grant and Local Project Fund.

The War Memorials Trust (WMT) can help us with paying for independent advice. Two conservation-accredited architects have visited the hall to quote for producing such a report.

10/07/20 Fundraising

Summary of Discussion:

We have investigated running a 100 or 200 club.

Several interesting fundraising ideas were raised during the meeting.

A local comedian and magician has been in touch to offer his services.

11/07/20 Feasibility

Summary of Discussion:

Greenwood Projects:

We are working with Greenwood Projects who are specialists in heritage and community projects.

Fit for Funding Workshop:

We have booked a “Fit for Funding” workshop to draw up an action plan.

12/07/20 Advertising

Summary of Discussion:

Snap Frame:

We have made a display in a poster frame to put in the pub. This will not be put on display yet in the pub as Coronavirus regulations prevent you from encouraging people to congregate.

Leaflet:

We have done a leaflet about the Hall for customers in the pub to read. Unfortunately, Coronavirus means that people cannot pick up leaflets and put them back. It was decided to wait until the Coronavirus is finished before printing leaflets.

Drawings/Prints:

JB has had some pencil drawings of the hall done showing how it used to look. This picture is taken from the Buxton Advertiser article on the opening of the hall in 1921, which shows the original porch. The artist, Andrew Baker, is also the “Buxton Iron Man” so instead of paying him for the drawings, JB has donated to his fundraising for the NHS (see https://www.facebook.com/Butty-Caricatures-325781468126233)

13/07/20 Committee Roles

Summary of Discussion:

All committee members now have roles to share the workload.

14/07/20 Correspondence/Any Other Business

Summary of Discussion:

Pomeroy has had a mention in the Peak Advertiser (the February meeting finally went into the paper) and has been featured in the local newsletter “News and Views.”

Several local residents have expressed an interest in the hall.

15/07/20 Date and Time of Next Meeting

Summary of Discussion:

This will be in September unless one is needed before. To be decided after the workshop.
